The Best Tan is a SAFE TAN.

Summertime is not the only time when you desire to achieve that captivating golden bronze tan all over your body. And you should know that sun tanning or sunbathing is a major reason for having skin cancer.But who does not want to be gorgeous? Don't worry because there are alternatives to sun tanning- SUNLESS TAN!

Tanning Beds- NOT SAFE

Too much exposure to UV rays causes the skin to age, be prone to radiation damages, and then be faced with the risk of skin cancer. Sunburn and rashes usually occur because of the ultraviolet lights that harm your skin. Use of a tanning bed also exposes you to the same level of danger as the same radiation and lights are present in it. Keep in your mind that tanning with presence of ultraviolet radiation is not safe at all.

DHA based products-SAFE
In other words, it's fake tanning. Using DHA doesn't really give you a tan but tints your skin, it does not make you skin produce melanin so you're still unprotected from the sun. But DHA that comes in lotions, creams, liquid solutions that can be applied using airbrush or tanning booths, does not expose your skin to any radiation and it's harmless.

Bronzers - SAFE
They are just make ups, they are instant and washes off when you shower. But always remember if you have very sensitive skin, always test first a product on small area of your skin and wait for any allergic reaction (24 hrs) before applying through out your body.

Tanning Pills- NOT REALLY SAFE

FDA does not approved tanning pills specially those that contain CANTHAXANTHIN. Although most tanning pills contain greater amount of l-tyrosine, which is a safe supplement (for weight loss and depression), there has been no scientific proof of it's effectiveness to tan skin.

Melanotan ii- NOT REALLY SAFE
FDA also does not approved melanotan as a product for tanning, but still a lot of tanning fans are experimenting with it. No fatal or serious side effects was reported up to date but FDA warns users for a possible long term effects of using the drug.

Whatever your choice is in getting your best tan, just keep in mind that if your risking yourself-it's not worth it!

"Barbie Drug" aka Melanotan II

If it isn't the ultimate fix! More than a tanning injection or a tanning pill that can give you the best tan ever, it also increases your sexual desires and helps you loose weight!!!

So what are the melanotan ii benefits?
  •     Gives you the perfect sunless tan
  •     Helps you get your ideal weight
  •     Increase your sexual desires and
  •     can most probably increase your sex/love life all together
  •     Can possibly save you from getting skin cancer (because this was the real intention of this drug)

But you know what they say about sounds "too good to be true..."

Lets dig deeper into what is this barbie drug, how it was invented, how it works and if it's safe.

Melanotan ii was invented at the University of Arizona. They hypothesized that an effective way to reduce skin cancer rates is to activate the melanin in the skin (a tan) prior to UV exposure.

Victor J. Hruby and Mac E. Hadley, found a peptide, [Nle4, D-Phe7]-α-MSH, that was approximately 1,000 times more potent than natural α-MSH. They dubbed this new peptide molecule, "Melanotan" (later Melanotan-1, now known as afamelanotide). They subsequently developed another analog, Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2), which they called "Melanotan II"

During the first testing of this peptide in humans, tested on 3 males, they reported that there were only mild side effects, like mild nausea, sleepiness and spontaneous erection.

As further reasearch and testing was made on melanotan both Melanotan and Melanotan II have been proven to produce a tan without exposure to UV, which was also testified by users that report tanning in areas of the body that would seldom see the light of day! However, the tanning process is greatly accelerated by UV exposure. The tanning effects may not be uniform throughout the skin. This is due to the half life and distribution of the drug, and primarily in response to the concentration of melanocytes in certain areas of the skin. Most will notice the greatest tanning effect on the face, arms, abdominal region. Interestingly, the genitals have one of the highest concentrations of melanocytes enabling these particular areas to respond very well to the peptide in conjunction with UV exposure.

Clinical trials to determine efficacy of the drugs have typically used dosages up to 0.21mg/kg daily for Melanotan (16mg for a 75kg (165lb) individual), and up to 0.03mg/kg daily for Melanotan II (2.25mg for a 75kg (165lb) individual). At this level of dosage, the side effects that were reported are:

    * Nausea 85%
    * Facial Flushing 75%
    * Fatigue 44%
    * Vomiting 26%
    * Injection site reactions 13%
    * Zero incidence of erections
    * No change in vital signs or haematological parameters, blood biochemistry (liver and renal function)

FDA warning

In 2007, the FDA issued a warning to an American online vendor illegally marketing melanotan II on the internet as a drug that prevents skin cancer and assists tanning. The FDA has not licensed melanotan II, and explained: "There is no evidence that the product is generally recognized as safe and effective  for its labeled uses." The FDA concurrently gave a blanket warning advising consumers to, "stop using Melanotan II, an unapproved product"

As I do further research about melanotan ii, most reviews from users are all positive and I am yet to come across a fatal or serious side effects..

The band from FDA doesn't stop everyone from experimenting with this wonder barbie drug..

Canthaxanthin in Tanning Pills are NOT SAFE!

How Tanning Pills with CANTHAXANTHIN work!Canthaxanthin can easily dissolves in lipids, lipids make up the fatty layer directly under the skin's epidermis. The canthaxanthin molecules attach to this layer of fat cells directly under the skin, giving the epidermis a brownish orange color.

Seems to be EFFECTIVE right? But what is CANTHAXANTHIN!
Canthaxanthin is a cartenoid, which is a class of yellow to red pigments. Canthaxanthin colors brine shrimp and other crustaceans, as well as many fish, plants and mushrooms. Canthaxanthin is also known as Food Orange 8, carophyll red or roxanthin red 10, as a color additive in certain foods, including barbecue and tomato sauces, soups, salad dressings, fruit drinks, candies and cheeses. In fact, most red, orange or yellow processed foods list canthaxanthin as an ingredient.

So if it's used in Food Processing then IT MUST BE SAFE?

NO! For a tanning pills to work or for it to effectively tint the skin, you'll need to consume large doses of Canthaxathin, whichdiscovered to have serious side effects.

FDA Food And Drug Administration Prohibits the consumption of large doses of Canthaxanthin.
"Tanning Pills' Are Not FDA-Approved. Although canthaxanthin is approved by FDA for use as a color additive in foods, where it is used in small amounts, its use in so-called tanning pills is not approved. Imported tanning pills containing canthaxanthin are subject to automatic detention as products containing unsafe color additives."

Side Effects
Some adverse effects reported with tanning tablets include discoloration of the stool, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet; GI discomfort; canthaxanthin-induced retinopathy; and at least 1 case of aplastic anemia.

L-Tyrosine in Tanning Pills

L-tyrosine is a nonessential amino acid (protein building block) that the body synthesizes from phenylalanine, another amino acid.

It is found in many protein containing foods, such as meats, dairy products, fish, wheat and oats.

Phenylalanine and L-tyrosine are sometimes prescribed as antidepressants, usually in combination with other nutrients and herbs that have mood elevating properties. Some doctors also recommend these amino acids for appetite control for weight loss.

L-tyrosine produced by skin cells are made into melanin. Although there hasn't been any scientific evidence that L-tyrosine can help you get the best tan without some UV Rays exposure. Remember that only UV Rays exposure triggers our skin to produce melanin.

According to my research, there are no known serious side effects. It is not known, however, whether or not long term use of L-tyrosine, most especially in large amount of more than 1,000 mg is safe, so you should seek advise from your doctor.

L-tyrosine alone may not give you the shade of tan you'll want, actually it may not give you a noticeable tan at all. So if you're taking L-tyrosine as a supplement which contain pure L-tyrosine, you might not notice a difference in your skin. I recommend an L-tyrosine tanning pill with copper and beta carotene.

My personal take on L-tyrosine, it alone does not give you the best tan, it does not produce melanin because our skin only produce melanin when exposed to the UV rays, however I strongly believe that it is a good tanning accelerator so you must use it in combination of other other chemicals, vitamins or lotions or a bit of sun tanning.
